Chaos TCG FAQ

If you wish to play against me for some practice to playing CHAOS TCG, add me on SKYPE: robostrike1.  Also e-mail me and indicate the time you are free for battles.

A number of questions arise while the user manual continues to be translated.  Here is a compiled list of questions and answers:

Damage is dealt at the same time to both Chara participating in the battle.
(This meaning that both Chara’s can be flipped over in the same battle then?)

YES

Preemptive Attack/ Defense:
When Attacking/ Defending (if the above applies), instead of attacking at the same time, your Chara will attack before the other (obviously Pre-Atk works only when you Attack and Pre-Def only when you Defend).  This way, if your Chara wins their Chara is flipped over without ever having a chance to flip your’s.

Depends on situation.  If the character with the ability first strike and defeats the opponent and goes faced down, then the character with first strike will not take damage.  Same for first defence.  However, if the character with first strike or first defense cannot defeat the opponent, then normal damage (see above) is taken into effect.

Penetrate/ Reflection:
The difference in your Atk and the opponent’s Def (if the Atk is higher than the Def) is still damage dealt to the deck. (Penetrate only on an Attack and Reflection only on Defense.)

YES

On the playing mat that came with the Touhou ChaOS cards, there is an extra spot (Main Deck, Extra Deck, Waiting Room (discard pile)) called the Backyard.  Any idea what this is for?  Didn’t see anything in the manual that you translated that mentions it and none of the Touhou card abilities mention sending a card to it.  I take it it’s used for other series of cards?

Backyard is like the removed from play field.  There has been no cases of any Touhou cards using this area, but there is bound to be cards with abilities which makes you discard to the backyard instead of the waiting room.

If the Atk being dealt is less than the Def, obviously nothing happens to the defender.  Though, if the Atk is equal to the Def, I’m assuming nothing happens as well, as the Atk has to be greater than the Def to flip the opponent.  Would my assumption be correct?

If your attack matches your opponent’s defense, then the opponent goes face down.

Though when leveling up the Extra Chara, do you need to have both Chara to level it up?  As it if it needed Reimu and Marisa, you’d need both in your hand, place one under the Extra Chara and the other in the Waiting Room?  And do Extra Chara fall under the Auto Level Up rule?  If so, how would that work (like would you have to have one of the cards in your hand as well as the other being discarded)?

One of the set of extra characters must be on the field before extra summon occurs.  In this situation, discard the other cards which belong to the extra character set (either from the field and hand) and then place the extra character on top of the character which belongs to the set.  Eg.  If Marisa is on the field, discard Reimu either from your hand or on the field and place “Reimu and Marisa” on top of Marisa.  It is also possible to do the vice versa and put the extra on top of Reimu.

Extra characters can level up, but do not follow auto level up.  If you take damage and one of the friend extra characters from the set is discarded, nothing happens.  Only partners can auto level up.  However, it is possible for partners to be part of an extra character.  Once the partner is part of an extra character, it loses it’s auto level up ability (under debate).  [For now, please go with this until further edits]

Also, when leveling up any other Chara (whether Partner or Friend), say I have “Eternal Shrine Maiden [Hakurei Reimu]” on the field, would I have to use the same card? or could I use a “Soul Sign [Hakurei Reimu]” (you know, since they have the same character name)?

Only your partner or extra characters can level up.  The character that levels up must be the same card name and description.  In this case, it is not possible to level up “Eternal Shrine Maiden [Reimu]” from attaching a “Soul Sign [Reimu]“

Extra Chara cards are the only cards that may be placed in the Extra Deck and no Extra Chara cards may be placed in the Main Deck.  Is that correct?

YES

9) Can only Partners level up?  Then a card played as a friend cannot level?  Mmm… I also cannot figure out what the difference having a Front Friend and Back Friend, other than that you have 4 friend spots.

Partners and extra characters can level up.  Regular friend characters cannot level up.  The use of front and back friends is very situational and dependent on character abilities.  For example, Reisen (R) has the ability to negate any front characters from defending against her.  However, it is not possible to rearrange your character position once you have placed them on the field.  It is possible for character abilities or event cards to move characters around the field.

Pertaining to only Partners leveling up, does that also mean that only a Partner can emerge as an Extra Chara?  Or can a Friend become an Extra Chara?

A partner or friend can become extra characters.  However, it is not possible to have an extra character while having a character as part of the set on the field.

Auto Level Up I can understand only works for your Partner.

Only the main listed Atk and Def is the only thing used for the Friends and the Partner gets to add the main Atk and Def with the modifier bellow it.  As with a level up just adds the modifier.  That’s correct?

Yes.  Extra characters also gain the modifiers

To Attack and to Defend, the Chara chosen must be in Standing position for both (obviously needs to be standing to be chosen to attack), or can you defend with a Chara in rest?  I’m 100% positive you cannot attack or guard in reverse position.  Main place I got this question from is that in the Partner Recovery State section of your translated manual, it mentions that the Partner may Defend in the rest position.

In the end phase of your turn, turn your partner from rest to standing or reverse to rest.  That is all.

Other than during your End Phase and Chara/Event abilities, there are no other times when you may return a Chara to face up.

YES

Since damaging your opponent Chara flips it face down.  Is there any way to send it to the Waiting Room?  On that note, if you ever get 4 Friends out, is there a way to send one yourself to the Waiting Room so that you may replace it with another or are you stuck with the first 4 that you play.

No, there is no way to send characters (that I am aware of) to the waiting room.  Use cards which indicate a sacrifice to summon to remove characters and replace them much more powerful characters.  Eg. Remilia (U), Secret Beast of Knowledge, Yukari (6, 2 penetrate)

If the Partner is face down, I take it that the Partner State Recovery does not happen.  If it does, the Partner would still stay face down would it not?  And if you did use your do use your Face Down Character Recovery to flip your Partner, would the Partner State Recovery then occur?

Partner recovery state happens regardless of being face up or face down.

You’ve clarified that a Friend may also become a Extra Chara.  Since leveling up is normally a privilege reserved for a Partner, could a Friend Extra Chara level up or no?

Friends can extra level up as well

To choose a Chara to attack, it may be your Partner or Friend that is in:
-  Stand Position = OK
-  Rest Position = no
-  Reverse Position = no
To defend against an attack, may you defend with a Partner or Friend that is in
-  Stand Position = OK
-  Rest Position = ??? (can they?)
-  Reverse Position = no

Only characters in standing position face up may defend or attack (Exceptions apply to card specific abilities which may state otherwise)
