MTAC (March Toronto Anime Convention)
I have to first tell you all that I missed seeing Danny Choo in real life because I went to MTAC… More like because I can’t fly to HK without taking a day off of work and that would be bad… however, I got 2 of my friends to join in on the fun! That’s right! ASUKA and KEROBEAR! Hope you all had fun!
On the topic of MTAC now, I arrived to the event with two Mississauga bloggers who visited Danny Choo often: Haruhiist and MasterAsia. Apparently Argyle ditched for booze and decided not to attend MTAC >_< While waiting for the Go Bus to Union station, I was able to snap a photo of 2 cosplayers!
This video by Acksonl can pretty much sum up most of the cosplayers at MTAC:
On our way to MTAC, I was able to find Pandatr0nics! It’s been a while since we last saw each other ^_^
We arrived at MTAC at around 10:40AM and we waited in link for a short amount of time before heading into the dealers room…
The convention is really small compared to Anime North or Fan Expo… this convention severely lacks content and competition. There were only 3 stalls selling manga, DVD’s, Gundam models, etc… Not to mention many of it are over priced compared to the in store prices… But many of my friends bought stuff there (the cheap and cute ones) that were sold out on the first wave. There were quite a number of rare items though like SEGA’s Hatsune Miku Project Diva figures and newly released K-on! character figmas. I was only able to grab hold of Haruhi manga volume 1. I was able to find RoseTech early in the morning ^_^.
After walking around, I went and found Rin’s group who situated their base near the entrance. I have to say that Rin and Yuki did an awesome job with the cosplays:
But I have to give props to Bridget from Guilty Gear because he actually can spin yo-yo’s:
There was also a Youmu cosplay (but this one is a real TRAP). There was a cameraman who was recording a video clip of them blowing a kiss towards the camera. I was able to record this spectacular event:
After taking a few pictures of Rin’s group, I saw one of their members from their base, Hime-sama, play Monster Hunter Unite! I decided to join him on the final boss against Ucamulbus! We were not able to beat it even after 2 tries… but I was able to learn it’s move-set and was quite some battle. We decided to play again next time we meet!
I was able to find 7 other people to connect my PokeWalker to. They’ll be thrilled to see what they get to review when their PKMN return back to the game cartridge ^^.
More pictures of cosplayers:
Delon Ho was able to get himself a Mirai T-shirt from Rin who got one in Japan! I am now jealous >_<
Also on the jealous list is Kokiase’s Hatsune Miku t-shirt!
Final resolve:
MTAC really small compared to Anime North or Fan Expo. However, this being said, it only attracts the elites and moderate cosplayers. I have not ever been dissatisfied with any of the cosplay pictures I took… rather, I just didn’t get enough time to take them all (mainly as I was really tired near the end and a lot of ppl were wearing the same costumes). Highlight of MTAC was indeed the highlight of MTAC. Mostly because of her posture and clothing material (I do not have a fetish for skin). It just amazed me to see a lot of effort put into the dress.
For the amount of sales in MTAC, I do agree that there is a large selection, but not a lot of variety. Many of the items were not cheap (especially a PG 00 + Riser for $370 by Anime Xtreme). However, I
Rin’s base:
Unlike the White Base, I have to give props to Rin’s base because out of the groups that were there, Rin’s was epic win… you got 2 traps, 2 cosplay makers and cute girls… They also situated themselves in the middle of the entire convention so people can take cosplay photos under good sunlight and space! Also, they grabbed the most attention and everyone there were really fun to talk to. If you’re wondering who hime-sama is, he’s hte one standing left of the ACGNA plasma sword with his hands crossed! If you compare him to Rin in purchases, he’s much more epic.
Rin is like a shotgun. He purchases anything up front and many at a time! Hime-sama is a sniper rifle… he always seems to be able to grab the last limited edition figures from any online store. His latest loot included 2 Sheryl Nome figures from the Macross Frontier movie. That being said… here’s a guy playing MW2 when he landed at MTAC:

[Insert jealous comment here]
Also. I want a mirai shirt tooo *sob*.. Looks like you guys had fun, wish we had stuff like that around here.
lol! i’m in the video! I didn’t even know hahaha
Looks like MTAC was a lot of fun! A good example of smaller not necessarily meaning worse when it comes to quality.
Megane-Mirai t-shirt ftw! xDDDDD
It was great meeting you and everyone there..love the sword and your laughing man shirt (represents you very well)!
Awesome! you actually caught me yo-yoing!
I screwed up in the end of that combo…
Hey, you were an awesome Bridget! Hope to see you and the group more next time!
No pics of yourself with your sword?
PG00-raiser for $370?!?! That’s waaaay over-priced X.x … Did Kokiase end up buying that Miku figure? and what did you buy besides the Haruhi manga?
Your wish is granted (blame robo for censoring himself xD):

Yes, PG 00 raiser for $370. Anime Extreme is the only store selling gundam models. There are two shops that were, but both belong to Anime Extreme.
Only the Haruhi manga vol.1 as I had previously stated that the con is too small and nothing else was available… was going to purchase Haruhi manga vol.3, but then realized not enough monies >_<
Thanks Delon for the image of me… I rarely post pictures of myself or then I would have to do a lot of faces over it ^_^
haha, highlight of MTAC might not even have made the dress herself. More and more lolitas are purchasing for the sake of brand name and elite-ness. But if you talked to her and she did say she made it herself, then good for her! It’s very pretty.
So, you guys all went. Is that why you asked me if I were coming? Unfortunately, I was still too sick to go out. Spent the day sleeping. Meng was there you know. I wish I could’ve been there.
Composure was also part of the reason why it stuck out over the rest of the cosplayers.
Only Kokiase and RoseTech went that I knew from Waterloo. All others went to the drinking party at BuncyTheFrog’s place.
Get well soon~
Yup, I pretty much saw everybody, just didn’t know who was in whose group >.<
Alright, I swear next time I'll keep myself organized. I'll send you a dozen SMSes and i'll msn you everyday a week before the event. We're gonna pro-adhoc pogeymanz until we vomit our intestines.
When's the next one again D:?
I'll carve the date into my arm. No way I'm going to have a crappy time again.
April 24th for Anzu’s B-day Party!
Wahaha~ I kinda beat Uca this morning in class today. If your done him already, lets go for some G-rank epics next time. :’D~
Sure, by then I might have faced HR6 of it too! ^_^
WHAT over priced can you give example ?? @_@ kinda curious how much the differences
Like mari-tan for $45… or Hatsune Miku proj diva figure for $45 (but I guess this one sounds more reasonable).
well huge differences between asia and north america event. in asia they sell it cheaper in event(than retail store) north america more expensive(than retail store) -___-
Yup… >_< Trying to make more money these North American retailers T_T At least I get mine online or I actually go to HK/Asia to buy them!
Like i said in my post, alter mio, $130 + tax in the convention. I can find it for 7000 yen + shipping.
even tho buy online canada custom charge a lot ORZ -___-
Ah, I guess I will have to wait until July to possibly get the chance to see that man myself. Sounds like he enjoyed his brief stay in Hong Kong (and staying in Island Shangrila as well, damn), so that’s good to hear at least.
This convention does look a little small for a convention, but looking from the photos it still seems to have a nice atmosphere. Having stuff overpriced in overseas convention is understandable, especially when you are very far away from Asia in the first place -_-;; But at least it’s good how you got a lot of stuff on your t0-get list last time you’re in Hong Kong – in fact I was surprised that some of the harder-to-get stuff were still be able to be bought when we were there!
So your next target is the Sakura-con as you have told me earlier today. I hope you do have fun for that one, and thanks for the little favour you have offered there – didn’t expect it coming at all!
Little favours are my specialty ^_^ I remembered when I was talking to Arial and she was kind of scared of not having to talk to strangers during the otaku meet. Then I introduced her to Asuka and I believe the event went well for them ^_^
I sees that some ppl were awesome at cosplaying! LOL I’m heading to Anime North for sure! But not buying anything TT____TT I have to save up money for my upcoming vacation down at Florida XD haha im just coming to cosplayyy lool :3
